MultiChoice decision on adult content channel

DSTVMultiChoice today announced that it has reviewed draft research data on a subscriber survey to test responses to the issue of adult content on pay TV channels.

The research indicates that a significant portion of subscribers are against adult channels, while some are indifferent to it and another significant section positive.

“It was unfortunate that the research conducted was misinterpreted by some people to mean that a decision was made to introduce an adult content channel on our bouquets,” said Nolo Letele, Group CEO of MultiChoice South Africa.

Letele said that MultiChoice regularly conducts research to test viewer tastes and impressions of existing and new television channels so as to improve customer service. Such research often includes questions looking at content requested by consumers, or channels that succeed abroad. The research survey conducted about 3 weeks ago focussed on adult content, since some competitors about to launch in South Africa may or may not include adult channels on their services.

Letele confirmed that MultiChoice has no intention of launching adult channels. He thanked customers for sharing their views and participating in this survey.
